Pauls Valley, Oklahoma June 2, 2009 October 16, 1922 ~ May 31, 2009 Longtime Katie resident Opal Roady passed away Sunday, May 31, at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Katie Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Jerry Roady officiating. The trio of Debby Flowers, Patty Baileyand Holly Wood will perform several musical selections, and burial will follow at Katie Cemetery, under the direction of the Wooster Funeral Home. Opal Roady, 86, was born October 16, 1922 in Healdton, Oklahoma, the second of eight children born to William "Buck" and Ova Bertina Garvin. She attended Elmore City High School, then married William B. Roady on May 11,1940. During their early years together they farmed and raised cattle, and became the parents of four children: Wanda, Barbara, William B., Jr. "Bill" and Charley. Opal Roady was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker, who instilled in her children a life-long love of music. She was a dedicated member of the Katie Missionary Baptist Church for more than 60 years, and played piano during church services for much of that time. She also assisted her husband, W.B., in his duties as deacon and music minister for the church. Together with their friend, Dolley Lowe, they traveled around the country for more than 30 years performing gospel music as The Roady Trio. Noted for her quilting and sewing skills, she was a true Christian who always went out of her way to help those around her. Opal is survived by her siblings: Stillman Garvin and his wife, Audra and Tommy Garvin and his wife, Lorene, all of Katie; sister, Dorothy Berry of Durant; sister, Laura Bell Lloyd and her husband Ivan, of Moore; and sister, Lois Curtisof Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her daughter, Barbara West, and her husband Elmer, of Ada; sons: Bill Roady and his wife, LaDonna, and Charley Roady and his wife, Sharon, all of Elmore City, plus 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a wide circle of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband W.B. Roady, siblings Ruby Moore, Elmer Garvin and Floyd Garvin, daughter Wanda Roady Elder and grandson, Monty Roady. Bearers will be Opal's grandsons, including Tim, Keith and Steven West of Ada; Darren and Michael Roady of Elmore City; and Brian Roady of Oklahoma City. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, October 6, 1967 ~ June 17, 2011 Rhonda Gail Roady, 43, was born on October 6, 1967 in Newport, Arkansas to William O. French and Ellen M. [Partain], and died on June 17, 2011 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was survived by her mother; husband, Kevin; children, Blaine, Grant and Lauren, as well as other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Rhonda was a loving mother and a loving childcare provider to countless children over the last 20 years. In lieu of flowers and to defray expenses, donations were requested for the Rhonda Roady Memorial Fund at The First National Bank of Chickasha, Tuttle Branch, phone: 381-4455. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, Rev. Randy McCown officiating, followed by burial in Katie, Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers consisted of: Arlen Wilson, Donny Browning, Robbie Loftin, Steve Workman, Jody Travis and Jay Reed. |
