Ardmore, Oklahoma February 2008 March 10, 1923 ~ February 4, 2008 DAVIS Graveside services for Sam Glen Gilliland, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Katie Cemetery with the Rev. Don Carter officiating.> Born on March 10, 1923, in Woodland to Hugh and Alice Aldridge Gilliland, he died Monday, February 4, 2008, in Ardmore.> He and Charlotte Jane Roady were married on July 14, 1950, in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1998; as did his parents; two brothers, H.C. and Truck Gilliland; a sister, Billie Bumgarner; a grandson, Jason Gilliland; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Bell Gilliland.> Sam owned and operated Sam's Welding and Radiator Shop in Davis for many years. In the mid-1980s, he retired and took up the sport of fishing.> Sam along with his wife and No. 1 fishing buddy, Lynn Chambless, spent countless hours fishing area lakes. Together they knew where the perfect spot for catching the big ones was. Sam made his daily rounds to all the coffee shops in Davis, where he would catch up on the latest news. He could also be found sitting at the Tire Doctor's, where he gave advice to anyone that would listen.> Survivors include three sons, David Gilliland and wife, Dianne, Davis, Jeff Gilliland, Lone Grove, and Mark Gilliland, Davis; nine grandchildren, Jody, Jeremy and wife, Rhea, Joel and wife Stephanie, Brian, Dillan, Chase and Jesse Gilliland, Kelly Hays and husband Scott, and Desia Simmons and husband Sean; 10 great-grandchildren, Zackery, Kobey, Brennon, Sean Sampson, Micah, Easton, Ellis, Ashley, Cody and Logan; a sister, Mary Jo Harrison and husband, Clyde, Eufaula; and a brother, Dugan Gilliland and wife, Barbara, Hennessey.> Honorary bearers are Lynn Chambless, Dick Jones, Don Jones, Rodney Jones, Jimmy Primrose and Bill Roper.> Hale's Funeral Home will direct services. |
