Douglas Lee "Doug" Townsend
May 4, 1954 ~ Jan 27, 2018

Douglas Lee Townsend of Wynnewood, Oklahoma was born to J. D. and Helen Rouse Townsend on May 4, 1954 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma and entered eternal life on January 27, 2018 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years.

After graduating High School he attended Duncan Vo-Tech where he studied auto mechanics and served in the United States Marine Corp. Although cars were his real passion he worked in the oilfield for B&B Tool then went to work for Pauls Valley State School in direct care. He worked 5 years for Michelin Tires in Ardmore he began long haul trucking. He obtained his Class A CDL with HazMat certification.

When Joanie Barry first met Doug he came in Hardees for a burger and she was the cook. He told the waitress. He would give her $2.00 if Joanie would come to take his order. Years later they began a courtship which led to being married on January 1, 1998.

Doug's hobbies included watching western movies, talking with people about cars, and listening to audio books. Doug never met a stranger, knew everyone, helped anyone who needed it and this was one of his biggest joys. It was important to teach Jimmy to remember that if you wanted to do something, do it right and always finish what you started. He will be remembered as always wanting to help people and encourage paying it forward.

Doug is survived by: Wife: Joanie, Son: Jimmy Townsend and fiancée, Rebecca Saltz, Daughter: Brenda Wampler, Brother-in-laws: Royce Barry and Clifton Barry, Sister-in-law: Jennifer Barry Grandchildren: Jonathan Sweeney, Destiny Wampler, Hanah, Wampler and Katherine Wampler

Doug was preceded in death by: Parents: J.D. Townsend and Helen Rouse Townsend, Brother: David Townsend.

Services for Doug Townsend are scheduled for Tuesday January 30, 2018 at 2pm at the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel with Ruben Rog officiating. Interment will follow in the Foster Cemetary. Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
