Joyce Mathildia [Stribling] Massegee
December 26, 1914 - August 20, 2017

Joyce Mathildia Massegee was born in Foster, Oklahoma, on December 26, 1914, to Robert Ernest and Mary Elizabeth [Selby] Stribling. She passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the age of 102.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, August 22, at 11:00 A.M. at the Elmore City Cemetery with Robert Teague, Minister at Elk Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. There is no family visitation planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Joyce attended the Foster schools and graduated from the 8th grade where she served as a substitute teacher while attending school. She married Jonathan Andrew Massegee on December 14, 1933. They had five children, W.J., Della, Wanda, Peggy, and Sharon. While the family lived in Sherman, Texas area, she worked many places, including the Sherman school cafeteria, a nursing home, and as a babysitter.

She was a member of the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school. She loved reading her Bible and singing. She also enjoyed watching the Dallas Mavericks and her favorite player was Steve Nash.

She is survived by her children, W.J. and spouse Jacque Massegee, Della and spouse Ab Combest, and Sharon and spouse Rocky Harlow; 14 grandchildren, Thad and spouse Stacey Massegee, Piper Wilson, Amy and spouse Ryan Koch, Mike and spouse Janice Combest, Rodney and spouse Laura Combest, Jay Combest, Vearl and spouse Schae Durrington, Vance and spouse Jeanne Durrington, Val and spouse Kendra Durrington, Rhonda and spouse Wes Stone, Leah Hogan, Leslie Judkins, Lori and spouse Darin Welch, and Cory and spouse Jonathan Beall; 41 great-grandchildren; and 20 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Massegee; two daughters, Wanda Durrington and Peggy Jackson; two granddaughters, Pat Miller and Vicki Durrington; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
