Solomon J. Meely


Solomon J. Meely of Oklahoma City was born March 3, 1934 in Byars, Oklahoma to Stephen Meely and Harriett Smith Meely.

He passed away June 7, 2008 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years.

He was raised in the Pauls Valley and Byars area but had made the Oklahoma City area his home most of his life.

Solomon was a Fast-Pitch baseball player and was well known in Wheeler Park in Oklahoma City.

He earned the rank of Sp-3 (T) while serving in the Mortar Battery of the 1st Airborne Battalion Group, 506th Infantry in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He continued to play fast-pitch baseball in the service as well as for a time following his tour of duty until the mid-1960s.

He worked as a hot tar roofer until his retirement.

Solomon was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Esline Meely and Gilbert Meeley.

Surviving family include his wife, Wanda of Oklahoma City; his children: Chenena Kay Wise of Shawnee, Mary Alice Roubidoux of Shawnee, Jeffery Clark Meely of Tulsa, Joseph Paul Meely of Tulsa, Timothy James Meely of Wewoka, Cheryl Lynn Himes, Donna Sanchez, Cecelia Roubidoux, Gary Mitchell Jr. of Oklahoma City, Cynthia Mitchell Mason, all of Oklahoma City; four brothers: Dewitt Meely of Oklahoma City, Lincoln Meely of Pauls Valley, Charles Ray Meely of Gautier, Mississippi, and Allen William Meely of Oklahoma City; one sister, Lucille Meely of Moore; 33 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Hazel Wallace.

Interment will be at Dixon Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
