Tuesday at DeArman-Pickard Funeral Home in Stratford, OK with Reverend Hazel Wallace to officiate. Burial will follow at Dixon Chapel Cemetery. The Choctaw Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Mr. Gaines passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Veterans Home in Sulphur, OK. He was born on May 13, 1944 at Lawton Indian Hospital to William and Abbie Gaines. He graduated from Chilocco Indian School. Wesley served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War from September 15, 1964 to January 17, 1969. After serving his time in the military he went on to attend school at Okmulgee Institute of Technology to receive a certification to become a diesel mechanic. During his time in war he received many awards: Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal with 3 stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, rifle expert badge and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Abbie Gaines; three brothers, Woodrow and Lewis Gaines, Watson Nedd; three sisters, Willie Joyce Ross, Betty Owens and Hattie Williamson; and one grandson, Vincent Gaines. He is survived by two children, Wesley Gaines Jr. and Pattie Williams; three sisters, Willie Ahdunko, Joy White Buffalo, Lula Sailor; two brothers, Henry Nedd and William Gaines; 9 grandchildren, Brandie, Natoshia, Wesley III, Lavona, Evan, Vincent, Michael, Bobby, Stephanie, Leacia; 11 great-grandchildren, Arrionne, Maliyah,Malikhi, Ava, Joshua, Vincent, Meloney, Danicia, Deabrean, Isacca, Derrick and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memories. Pallbearer will be Chris Cully, Stephen Cully, Timothy Gaines, Dalton Gaines, Efrain White Buffalo, Rochelle Buffalo Jr. William Gaines Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are William Gaines III, Wendall Gaines, Mike Cully, Corey White Buffalo, Matthew White Buffalo and Kyle White Buffalo. |

Hazel Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow at Dixon Chapel Cemetery near Stratford. A Wake service will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mrs. Gaines passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at her home. She was born July 19, 1950 near Stratford, OK to Lemme and Nora Smith Wallace. Mrs. Gaines was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, William of the home; two sons, William Ray Gaines, Jr. and wife Barbara and Wendall Ray Gaines; a daughter, Wilberta Rae Cully and husband Michael; sister, Lavern Walker; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, two brothers, and a daughter-in-law Kimbrely Gaines. Bearers are her grandsons and nephews, William Gaines, III, Timothy Gaines, Dalton Gaines, Christopher Cully, Stephen Cully, Merle Stick, Jr., Monty Stick, Jason Wallace, and Thomas Clark. Honorary bearers are the Oklahoma Twisters men’s softball team and Down and Dirty men’s and women’s softball team. |

He was raised in Stratford, Oklahoma area. He attended Stratford schools and is a graduate of the Stratford High School. He was married to Billie Koreen Gaines [Williams] Gaines, in Oklahoma City on December 22, 1975. He joined the United States Army in 1971 and served until 1977 in U.S. Army and a veteran of the Viet Nam. He moved to Irving, Texas and worked 17 years as a Machinist for Maddox Metal Works until his retirement. Since 1998 he has made his home in Canton, Oklahoma.v David was a member of Dixon Chapel Presbyterian Church. |
