Jessie Ree [Curlee] Denney
March 10, 1923 ~ March 15, 2011


Jessie R. Denney, a resident of Sulphur was born March 10, 1923 in Ada, Oklahoma to J.J. and Fannie Mae [Stick] Curlee. She passed away Tuesday March 15, 2011 at Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years and 5 days.

Jessie grew up in the Allen area, attended school at Red Oak before graduating at Allen.v She and Hershel Denney were married on June 15, 1944 in Allen, Ok.

She retired from the Sulphur Veteran Center, where she had worked as a nurses aide.

Jessie served as the first secretary under Gov. Overton James of the Chickasaw Nation and receieved a plaque for her work at the veteran center from Gov. George Nigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on Nov. 8, 1994, and by 2 sisters.

Survived by 2 sons and daughter-in law; Jim and Mary Denney of Sulphur, Ok and Stanley and Diane Denney of Mounds, Ok. Daughter; Charlotte Smith of Sulphur, Ok, 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Geraldine.
