She passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family and caregivers Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Willie Mae attended Dunbar School where she was active in basketball. She was retired from the Pauls Valley State School where she was a caregiver for babies. Willie Mae was a godly woman and as the scriptures teach, a woman whose children do "rise up and call her blessed." They knew a mother who always put family first. Her "walk and her talk" were one. Her children saw in her life an example of honesty, hard work, determination to be one's best, love of God and others. She was affiliated with the Pauls Valley PTA and served as a Cub Scout den mother for many years. Traveling to see all the kids play sports brought Mrs. Stevenson great joy. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her hobbies included gardening and growing beautiful flowers. Surviving family includes her son, Velmar Stevenson of Duncan, Oklahoma, daughter, Wynona Stevenson of Pauls Valley, 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hilbert "Steve" Stevenson, sons, Herman Stevenson and Bobby Ray Stevenson. |
