Jerry Don Drake
December 11, 1941 ~ July 6, 2021


Jerry Don Drake, of Pauls Valley, passed away July 6, 2021 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years.

Jerry Don Drake was born December 11, 1941 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Wilford and Alma Baker Drake.

He lived in Camargo, OK until he was about 3 then moved to Oklahoma City, where his dad worked at the Stock yards. When he was about 4 ½ they moved to Taloga, OK to a farm, where he started school. When he was a Freshman they moved to Colorado for about 6 months, then back to Taloga. In the summer of 1956 they moved to Fountain ,CO and in January 1957 moved back to Camargo, OK where they lived with his Aunt Myra Drake where he went to school. In the summer of 1957 they moved back to Talago,OK, where he graduated High School in 1959.

He went to Okmulgee, OK College where he got his printing degree. He left there in December 1960 and started work at Vici Becon at Vici, OK. In the fall of 1962 he went to work at Hobart, OK at Kiowa county Star Review.

In September 1964, he joined the Army National Guard, and in August 1968 moved to Franklin Park, IL. He stayed with his cousin who got him a job in a factory.

In January 1969, he married Shirley Wright Drake and had a daughter, Chantelle Renee Drake born May 28th 1970.

He moved to Round Lake Beach, IL in June 1969, where he joined the Army National Guard in Chicago, IL full time.

In Aug 1978 he tranferred to Pauls Valley, OK and took over the Armory . He retired in January 1985 as lSG E8. He went to Control Group until December 2001 and rertired with 32 years.

He started working for the Pauls Valley Police Department in August 1985.

On December 25 1989 Shirley Drake passed away and in December 1990 he married Doris Maxine Drake.

In September 1990 he quit the Police Dept, and bought the Pak-A-Away Store in Pauls Valley. In July 2001, they sold Pak-A-Way and he started working for the Chickasaw Gaming Center in Paoli, Ok in April 2002. He then retired in October 2015 after 13 years in protective services.

Surviving family include his wife of 30 years, Maxine; daughter, Jackie Steeleman and husband, Ronnie, daughter, Karen Welty, and son, Bill Ragland and wife Joan, grandchildren; Ashley Turner, Tim Turner and wife, Kambree, Amanda, Lindsey and husband, Richard, Randi, Sarah - Len, Scott - Cassidy, Morgan and Melyssa; great grandchildren, Mary, Brendon, Larry, Leo, Kylee, Jaysen, Lilly and Landri; brother, Garry Drake; sister, Cathy Huber and husband, Joe.

Funeral services will be held at the Wynnewood Church of Christ. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
