The memorial service for Robert "Bob" Harlan Rich, 75, of Fairmont, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, Fairmont. The Rev. Timothy Dorsch will officiate. A private family burial will precede the memorial service in Fairmont Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Winfield, Kan., to Paul and Ethel Collmann Rich and died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his home.
He attended Trinity Lutheran School, Winfield. He then attended school in Lincoln, Neb. They moved to Ponca City, where he graduated from high school. He attended Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, and Oklahoma State University.
He served during the Korean War and served in Germany until 1956.
He married Karlene Lamoine Kaddatz Aug. 19, 1956, in LaMesa, Texas. They made their home in Ponca City, where he worked for Conoco in research and development for 33 years, retiring in 1993.
He received the Community Service Award in 1985 from Conoco for volunteer work in the community as well as an award for helping to save a man's life at Conoco.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Fairmont, and First Lutheran Church, Ponca City, where he held various positions including elder, assistant Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school superintendent chair.
He coached YMCA football for 10 years and junior baseball for 14 years.
Surviving are his wife, Karlene, of the home; three children, Jonathan Rich, Amanda Rich and Michael Rich; one sister, Aneita LaFountain; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Zion Lutheran Preschool, Fairmont, or First Lutheran Radio Broadcast.
