The funeral for Roland Lee Nobis, 70, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kenneth Wade will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fairmont. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1938, on the family farm near Fairmont to Henry J. and Carolena Wyssmann Nobis and died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
He attended Fairmont Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Garber High School in 1956. He attended Okmulgee Technical College, studying diesel mechanics. He then went to work for Hackney Iron and Steel, Enid. He joined the Army in March 1961 and was a graduate of the Seventh U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in Bad Tolz, Germany. He also was a wire team chief in the 34th Artillery’s Headquarters Battery in Munich, Germany.
Following his discharge, he returned to Enid and worked 17 years for Northern Equipment Co. as a parts department manager.
He married Patsy Penner March 7, 1964, in Enid. He worked for Ray Nobis Industrial Supply until the oil bust. He then worked for Cummins Construction in the parts department. He also farmed and raised cattle on his father’s farm. In 1963, he took control of his father’s operation, retiring in August 2008, due to his loss of eye sight and battle with cancer. He was a door greeter and served as elder at his church.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy, of the home; one son, Steven C. Nobis of Enid; two brothers, Ray Nobis of Waukomis and Don Nobis of Enid; and two sisters, Esther Loesch of Fairmont and Arlene ZumMallen of Okarche.
He was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and one sister.
