Stephen L. Wilson, known for his kindness and humor, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 19, 2009. He was born December 24, 1946 to Tom & Iva Dell (Henson) Wilson. He grew up in the community of Hunter, Oklahoma and loved to tell stories of his days playing baseball, basketball and to share anecdotes of the small community with his friends near and far in the years to come. He graduated from Hunter High School in 1964 attended Okmulgee Tech for one year, then Phillips University graduating in May 1969 with a B.S. in Business Administration and a Minor in Art.
He married Linda Ryan of Pond Creek in January of 1969 and joined the Navy in the summer of 1969 serving his country at Naval Air Station bases in Orlando, Florida where he served on the drill team, Pt Mugu, California where he was selected as Sailor of the Year, and Alameda, California on the U.S.S. Hancock as an Aviation Ordinance Man during the final phases of the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he elected to stay in Alameda, California and worked for Myers Tire Supply and later Winston Tire Company starting in their management training program. After managing two retail stores, he was asked to manage the Northern California Distribution Center as the company expanded into Northern California. After 22 years with the company, the death of the founder and subsequent sale of the company, the No. California Distribution Center was closed and its staff laid off. He went to work for S & G Screw & Specialty until June 2005 when he and his wife Linda pulled up stakes and returned to Oklahoma settling in Pond Creek. He since has enjoyed the opportunity to once again experience the warmth of the small town of his childhood and reconnecting with childhood friend and relatives.
While in California he served the Lord and community with his active participation at First Christian Church Hayward serving as both Elder and Chairman of The Board. He and his wife, Linda took in a foster daughter, Carrie Gaytan who has remained a part of their lives into adulthood.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Linda Wilson, his Mother, Iva Dell Wilson of Enid, his sister, Karen Thomas and husband Ed Thomas of Enid. Brothers-in-Law Tom Ryan and Terry Ryan; Sisters-in-Law Karen Ryan and Barbara Ryan; Nieces, Traci Thomas and Jenna Ryan and Nephews, Trenton Thomas, Aaron Ryan, Adam Ryan and Marc White.
