Clayton was born on July 15, 1924, at Manning, Kansas, to Alexander and Nellie (Ludlow) Garner, and passed peacefully on September 29, 2021, at Blackwell, Oklahoma.
He was raised on a farm west of Hunter, Oklahoma. He graduated from Hunter High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation, Clayton joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Hunter where he farmed and ranched for many years.
In 1966, he married Lorraine, and they raised their four daughters on the farm until 1978, when they moved to Pond Creek. Clayton was a rural mail carrier in the Hunter, Salt Fork, and Lamont area until his retirement in 1989. He was a volunteer at Wheatheart Nutrition until 2020.
Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. He enjoyed reading and watching sports. Clayton was a member of the First Christian Church of Pond Creek.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of the home; Daughters, Terry (Mike), Kathy (Mark), Stacey (Robert), and Mary (Andrew); Grandchildren, Jeremiah, Santana, Savannah, Curry, Blake, Braden, Bode, Dillon, and Cooper; Great-Grandchildren, August, Kaleb, Trenton, Kobe, Michael, Shayla, Charlie, Stormy, Cadence, Paisley, Saylor, Oaklynn and Haven.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wilma, Norma, and Dale.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 4th, at 2:00 p.m. at the White Cemetery in Hunter, Oklahoma, under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship has been set up at the First State Bank, P.O. Box 58, Pond Creek, OK 73766.
