Hennessy – The funeral for David L. Valtr, 68, will be 10 AM Monday in Union Chapel Church. The Rev. Roy Rothmire will officiate. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cordry - Gritz Funeral Home.
He was born February 26, 1933, on a farm near Douglas to Lidmil and Edna Schulz Valtr and died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid, after a brief battle with cancer.
On July 26, 1953, he married Juanita LaPorte. They were married 39 years and had eight children before her death in 1992. He married Shirley Bocox Vaverka on August 29, 1993. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of Union Chapel Church. He served as an elder. He retired from Garfield County District No. 4 where he worked 42 years with 17 of those years as road foreman.
Surviving are his wife Shirley of the home; two sons, Dennis of Enid and Kelly of Searcy, Arkansas; five daughters, Debbie Seek and Sheley Mowry both of Oklahoma City, Susan Heflin of Knobnoster, Missouri; Sharon Seiger and Sherry Abbott, both of Hennessy; one brother, Jerry of Douglas; two sisters, Norma Parton of Dover, Delaware, and Geneva Burland of Enid; one stepdaughter, Kelly Thomas of Hennessy; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to S. T. Allen Christian Union Camp.
