Funeral service for former Alta Taggart, 90, of Waukomis, who died Sunday, November 1, will be at 2 PM Wednesday, November 4, at Waukomis Methodist Church with the Reverends Coy Donakey and Ron Graber officiating. Interment will be in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.
Taggart was born April 13, 1902 in Enid to W. C. and Eva Talbott. She moved to Waukomis as a child and later graduated from high school in 1921. She moved to Wichita, Kansas, and married Joe Beh Taggart. The couple lived in the Pioneer community before moving to Waukomis in 1969.
She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church, where she was pianist for 51 years. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher and was on the state Christian Union Executive Board for 33 years. She was state secretary for 26 years, and a member of the Waukomis Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Methodist Circle, a life member of the Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers and the Cherry Red Auxiliary at the Bass Hospital. She was a charter member of the Pioneer Extension Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandchild and two brothers.
Survivors include a son, Don Taggart of Oklahoma City; daughter, Glenna Belle Berkenbile of Hennessey; three grandchildren and four great – grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church.

Joe Ben Taggart of Waukomis died Wednesday in a local hospital following a period of ill health.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Saturday in the Waukomis Methodist Church with the Reverends J. Harold Brown, H. I. Jones, and Coy Donakey officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery with Henninger – Allen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family has suggested that memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church with the funeral home as custodian.
Taggart was born December 17, 1901, in the Pioneer community, the son of Frank and Anna Taggart. His mother died when he was born and he was reared by an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Taggart. He attended school in the Pioneer and Waukomis communities, graduating from Waukomis high school in 1920.
He married Alta Talbott in 1923 in Wichita, Kansas. He retired from farming in 1969 and moved to Waukomis where he was on the cemetery board for many years, resigning due to poor health.
He was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, on the church board, and state and national Christian Union Boards. He was a member of Waukomis Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the Sons and Daughters of Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Mrs. Leland Burkenbile of Hennessey; three grandsons; two half – sisters, Mrs. John Dillingham and Mrs. Clark Wheeler of Afton; and one half – brother, Frank Taggart of Waldo, Kansas.
