ENID - The funeral for Duard M. Spleth, 85, of Waukomis , will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Waukomis Christian Church. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Waukomis Lodge 161. Arrange-ments are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

He was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Waukomis to George C. and Mary L. Brinker Spleth and died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

He was a 1941 graduate of Waukomis High School. He attended Phillips University and learned to fly airplanes at Woodring Airport.

He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and entered the Aviation Cadet Program in San Angelo, Texas. He served two separate tours of duty in the Air Force, stationed at Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands for the testing of the first hydrogen bomb. He completed 22 years of military service, retiringwith the rank of major.

He married Billie Jo Underwood Jan. 5, 1947. They made their home on a farm near Waukomis , where they lived 63 years.

He served the W.B. Johnston Grain Co. as their company pilot for 30 years. He was manager of Woodring Municipal Airport from 1969 to 1992. He was a lifetime member of Waukomis Chris-tian Church, a 63-year member of Waukomis Masonic Lodge and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

Surviving are his wife, Billie Jo, of the home; two sons, Steve Spleth of Medford and Jim Spleth of Enid; two daughters, Ellen Beer of Stillwater and Jo Lou Spleth of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Waukomis Christian Church sanctuary building fund or Waukomis Lodge 161.

Funeral service for Billie Jo Spleth, 90, Waukomis, is 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Waukomis Christian Church, with graveside service at Waukomis Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid.

Billie Jo was born Aug. 13, 1927, in San Angelo, TX, to William F. Underwood and Jessie Hardin Underwood, and died Saturday, April 21, 2018, in Guthrie. She was a 1946 graduate of San Angelo High School. She attended the University of Texas for one year, studying journalism, before accepting the marriage proposal of the love of her life, the young Army Air Corps Cadet Duard Spleth, whom she met in San Angelo. When she pinned his wings on him, it was a bond that would last a lifetime. They married on January 5, 1947, in a blizzard in San Angelo, TX, and made their home on the family farm in Waukomis, where they resided for the next 63 years, until Duard's passing in 2010. They welcomed four children into their lives: Stephen William, James Walter, Ellen Ann and Jo Lou.

Billie Jo was a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in numerous positions, including Worthy Matron. She was an active member in the Waukomis Christian Church as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and member of Christian Women's Fellowship. She was active in the community and became a member of the Junior Farmerettes when she came to Waukomis. Her passion for Girl Scouting included leading local troops, as well as becoming a professional Girl Scout Field Director. Billie Jo enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, Texas and Western history, and had a keen interest in genealogy. She and Duard loved fishing on Lake Texoma. Her family came first, but being a Texan was right behind.

Surviving are her sister, Juanita Underwood Bozek, Ennis, TX; son Jim (Loretta) Spleth Enid; daughters, Ellen (Greg) Beer, Guthrie; and Jo Lou Spleth, Phoenix AZ; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duard, son Steve, and brother Lawrence Underwood.

Memorials may be made to Waukomis Christian Church Christian Education Children and Youth Fund.
