Geraldine Irene Skouby was born in Enid Sept. 3, 1918, to Frederick and Artie Atherton Pream. She and her mother were the first at St Mary's hospital in Enid to both survive a caesarian section birth. She passed away at the Denton Senior Care Center, Denton, Texas, on May 18, 2017, at the age of 98. She graduated from Waukomis High School in 1935, and attended Enid Business College. She married LeRoy Skouby, also of Waukomis, Dec. 2, 1936. Geraldine lived her entire life in Garfield County until moving to Senior Care Center of Denton, Texas, in May of 2015. Sixty-seven of those years were living on the family farm southwest of Enid. Besides being a busy mother of five children and a farmer's wife, she served as an adult leader of the Waukomis 4-H Club while her children were members. Because of these activities, she also worked with the Garfield County Fair. Geraldine was very involved with the Waukomis United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, Administrative Board Member (becoming the first woman chairperson), Women's Society of Christian Service (Circle), and numerous other activities. She was also involved in the Garfield County Extension Homemakers Club. Geraldine enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, painting, playing games with her grandchildren and her many friends at the Senior Center in Waukomis, and Senior Care Center of Denton, Texas. She was instrumental in starting the Senior Center in Waukomis.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one daughter, Carol Buchanan.
She is survived by and is lovingly remembered by children Ruth Chapman of Sanger, Texas; Dorothy Swalley and husband, Larry of Lewisville, Texas; David Skouby and significant other, Carla Gilmore of Waukomis; Kay Pace and husband Dan of Denton, Texas; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and three step-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces, Marlene Tappen and husband, Phillip of Enid, and Mary Spreiter and husband, Ted of Catoosa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waukomis United Methodist Church with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
