Waukomis Cemetery


Merrill F. Roades, 70, longtime Waukomis resident, died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital. His funeral will be at 2 PM Monday in the Christian Church at Waukomis with the Rev. Bill Bushnell and the Rev. Mike McVay officiating.

He will be buried in the Waukomis Cemetery, with the Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Roades was born and grew up near Sieling and graduated from Mutual High School. He and Vera Irvin were married in 1927 and 10 years later moved to Waukomis.

Roades was an auto mechanic for many years and later worked as an aircraft mechanic at Vance Air Force Base until his retirement in 1963.

He was a member of the Waukomis Lodge No. 161 AF&AM and was past Pres. of the Sunnyside Club.

His body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Monday and the casket will remain closed after the service. Those who wish may make contributions to the Northern Oklahoma Handicap Organization (NOHO) in his memory. Brown's will serve as custodian of Memorial contributions.

He is survived by his wife Vera of the home; a son Robert RoadEs of Waukomis; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Bonnie) Cook of Waukomis; three grandchildren; a brother, Earl RoadEs of Oklahoma City and a sister, Mrs. MaE McGriff, Los Angeles, California.
