Waukomis Cemetery

TULSA — Orian Russell Miller Jr. passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at Clarehouse after a long illness. He was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Waukomis, Okla., to Orian Russell and Iva M. (Atterberry) Miller.

Russell, known to family and friends as “Sonny,” grew up on a farm, where he found his love of horses and graduated from Waukomis High School, with the class of 1950.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas, during the Korean War, and then worked on building a part of the interstate highway system in northeast Oklahoma.

Russell married Judith Hemphill and returned to Waukomis, where they raised four children until their divorce. Russell later married Shirley Bush, with whom he spent 20 years until her death.

He worked in the ranching and farming business until his retirement. Russell enjoyed raising horses, hunting, fishing and camping, especially in the Rocky Mountains, where he loved to vacation.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley.

He is survived by his sisters, Jane Ann Fluman of Waukomis, Okla., and Ema Lue Irvine of Beaumont, Texas; son, John Russell and wife Mary Lou of Broken Arrow, Okla.; son, Robert Lynn and wife Tammy of Miami, Okla.; daughter, Cheryle Jean Tallman and husband David of Welch, Okla.; and son, Taryl Eugene of Bluejacket, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Waukomis Cemetery in Waukomis, Okla., followed by a luncheon for family and friends in the fellowship hall at Waukomis United Methodist Church.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Clarehouse, 7616 S. Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK, 74133, as a thank you for their loving care of our father during his final days.
