John Henneke was born in Germany May 3, 1860, and died April 8, 1936, at the family home, 1711 W. Oklahoma, Enid, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and five days.
He came to the United States with his parents when he was one year old and located at Staunton, Illinois. He married Miss Patje Thienus March 31, 1887, and moved to Oklahoma, where they located on a farm near Drummond.
Fifteen years ago, he moved with his family to Enid, where he lived until his death. Twelve children were born to the couple, four sons, Will Henneke of Waukomis, Henry Henneke and Charles Henneke of Drummond, and George Henneke of Enid, and eight daughters, Mrs. Mary Engleman, Mrs. Margaret Eichman, Mrs. Amanda Hazelwood, Mrs. Sena Hollroh, and Miss Lydia Henneke of Enid, and Mrs. Emma Kline of Drummond. Two daughters, Mrs. Anna Brown, and Miss Lizzy Henneke, preceded him in death.
He also leased 22 grandchildren, one brother, Will Henneke of Enid, and a half sister, Mrs. Henry Johnson of Old Ripley, Illinois, and a half brother, John Engleman of Mt. Olive, Illinois.
He was confirmed and united with the Lutheran Evangelical church and was always a faithful and willing church worker.
The early days of his life in Oklahoma were not without their struggles, but being a lover of children, he found pleasure in being a good provider for his large family. He planned his life that he might retire at 60, which desire was accomplished and in September, 1920, he moved to Enid. Mr. Henneke was a man of physical strength and enjoyed the later years of his life. His death was a shock to his many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Waukomis Methodist Church Friday afternoon, with the pastors Rev. Paul Press of Marshall and Rev. Henry Wiona of Enid, officiating.
