December 1, 1945 - January 4, 2024

Dale A Houska, 78 of Vernon, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10:30 am at Anderson Burris Funeral Home and Crematory, 3002 N Van Buren, Enid, Oklahoma.

Dale was born Saturday, December 1, 1945, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Joe and Ava (Hubbard) Houska. Dale graduated from Pioneer High School in 1964. In August of that year, he married Janet Lynn Barnes at her parent’s home in the rural Pioneer Community. Dale and Janet then moved to Okmulgee where Dale enrolled in the automotive parts program at Oklahoma State Tech and graduated the following year. Dale proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966- 1968, serving thirteen months in Vietnam. In 1972 Dale graduated from Phillips University with a degree in marketing and accounting. In April of 1972, he and Janet welcomed their son, Brad. While in Enid with his family Dale worked at Day Ford, Garfield Battery and Electric, and Champlin Petroleum, then later at Mesa Petroleum in Amarillo Texas and retired in 2007 from Pioneer National Resources in Irving, Texas.

Although Dale earned a living pushing a pencil in an office, he was a "greaser" at heart and always had a project in the garage. While working at Mesa he was a daily visitor at the Mesa Gym and participated in numerous marathons and half marathons.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mike Houska.

Survivors included his wife Janet, son Brad Houska, DDS, daughter in law Ashley and grandchildren Briston, Riggen and Brylee all of Vernon, Texas as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to Pioneer Academic Foundation or Pioneer Band through Anderson-Burris.
