ENID, Okla. - The Funeral Service for Sharon B. Goodwin, 75, of Waukomis, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Enid. The Reverend Andrew Long will officiate. Burial will follow at the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Sharon was born on Sunday, November 21, 1937, in Los Angeles to Clive and Willa Buchan and passed from this life on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at her home in Waukomis.
She grew up in Long Beach, California, and moved to Tulsa with her parents when she was in high school. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she met the love of her life, Max Goodwin. They married in Tulsa on April 6, 1957, and made their home in Stillwater until Max?s graduation, when they moved to Waukomis. Sharon partnered with him in farming, ranching, and real estate for 40 years and continued this work following his death.
While attending OSU, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and graduated from Phillips University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Sharon began her teaching career at Waukomis Elementary School as a first-grade teacher. She also taught at Lahoma and Hennessey Public Schools, retiring after 31 years.
During her lifetime, Sharon was a member of Waukomis Eastern Star 137, serving as Past Worthy Matron, all the Star Points and Chaplain. She was assistant treasurer and helped with many other committees for Garfield county Republican Women. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Waukomis Parks Committee. Sharon also belonged to the Chapter DB, PEO.
Sharon was a faithful servant and lived her life to help others. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was a primary Sunday school teacher and a Presbyterian Women moderator, receiving Presbyterian Woman of the Year in 2008. Sharon was a deacon and an elder, a Stephen Minister, and served on many committees for the church. She was also a member of Monday Morning Bible Study.
Sharon enjoyed traveling with friends ? her favorites including snow skiing and spending time at Mackinac Island, Michigan.
In addition to her husband Max, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Buchan. She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly and her husband Scott Savage of Waukomis, and Shelly and her husband Donovan Smith of Texas. She was ?Gran? to four grandchildren, Kara, John, Conrad and his wife Stephanie, and Savanna, and one great granddaughter, Myriah.
Sharon will be missed by many family and friends whom she loved dearly.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Enid, Waukomis Park and Beautification Board, or PEO Scholarship Fund with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds. Condolences may be given online at Brown-Cummings.com.
