Sophie Eldena East, age 86, formerly of Hennessey, Oklahoma, received her angel wings on October 3, 2021, at The Timbers in Jasper, Indiana.
Eldena was born July 23, 1935, to William "Bill" and Sopie Ziegler Street in Martin County, Indiana. She grew up and attended school in the same area.
On January 2, 1954, she married the love of her life, Theodore "Ted" Maxwell East in Bloomington, Indiana. They raised 2 daughters, Debbie and Karen, in Indiana and Arkansas. In 1975, Ted and Eldena moved to Waukomis, Oklahoma, and Eldena went to work at the Enid State School (NORCE) and she helped Ted run the family scrap metal business from their home. Eldena retired from NORCE in 1995.
In 2003 she moved to Birdseye, Indiana, to be closer to her family there. In 2011, due to declining health and her battle with Alzheimer's was just beginning, Eldena moved into the Timbers of Jasper, Indiana. She was loved by all of the staff and made many memories while living there.
Eldena was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents, and brother Bill Street.
Her survivors include her daughter Debbie Wright and husband David of Birdseye, Indiana, her daughter Karen Wulffenstein and her husband Al, of Enid, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Angel, Billy, and Gary Don of Oklahoma and Larry and Julie Watkins of Indiana; 15 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; her brother Norman Street and his wife Suzanne of Indianapolis, Ind., her sister Ann Williams and her husband Dave of Jasper, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen according to her wishes. A family service will be held at a later date at the Waukomis, Oklahoma, Cemetary where she will be buried with her husband.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Alzheimer Association.
