ENID — Memorial service for John A. Christy, 61-year-old Enid resident, will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dave Jones will officiate. Burial of cremains will follow in Waukomis Cemetery.
John was born June 8, 1951, in Pawnee, Okla., to Homer and Clara (Miller) Christy and died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at his home, surrounded by family.
He attended school in Pawnee and earned his high school diploma while serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On March 11, 1980, he married Carolyn Rhodes in Enid, where the couple made their home.
He hauled mud for various oil service companies. He also sold cars at Ray’s Automotive, L&L Auto Sales, and then for Danny’s Car sales. During this time, he was also a custodian for Waukomis Public Schools.
He loved to repair all types of computers and was an avid reader. In his younger years he broke horses.
He is survived by four daughters, Tammy and husband Robert Christmas, Kristine and husband David McMahan, Misty and husband Dustin Best, and Jennifer and husband Kevin McCarson; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Lila and family, Bonnie and family, Glenda and family, and Mary and family; three brothers Clarence and family, Joe and family, and Flick and family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his wife, Carolyn in 2011, parents and brother, Wayne.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Heart and Lung Association.
