Wayne was born February 2, 1935, to Cecil E. and Juanita (Dick) Cornish, on the family farm in Waukomis, Oklahoma where he lived most his life and passed from this life May 19, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was raised and educated in Waukomis graduating from Waukomis High School. At the age of thirteen, alongside his father, he began working as a contract rodeo performer, rodeo clown, and bull fighter. In 1953 he began to work professionally, he joined the PRCA and began The Roman team, a two-horse team, that he stood, with one foot on each of their backs, while they performed tricks. He enjoyed performing for more than twenty-two years through good times and not so good times he remained a "Real Cowboy". In 1971 he and his father found that "rodeo had changed", it was then that they decided to retire. A barrel that he used in his act is located today in the Rodeo Hall of Fame along with his picture. He then worked driving cattle and horses, hauling some of the greatest in history.
He was a member of the PRCA and the Waukomis Christian Church. He received the Andy Womack Memorial Award and has been nominated for the Rodeo Hall of Fame. He enjoyed spending time with his rodeo clown friends at rodeo clown reunions around the country, attending rodeos, fishing, listening to country music, tinkering in his woodworking shop, and spending time with his family. Always wearing a pressed shirt, creased jeans, and a clean cowboy hat.
He is survived by two daughters, Shawna Pitman and husband Dean, of Drummond, Jacquetta Perry and husband Brett, of Waukomis, grandchildren Madison Rhodes and Cody Perry, of Waukomis; and one great granddaughter Kinsley and numerous other loved ones and family friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Juanita Cornish, one daughter Donna Kay, his wife Jackie Cornish.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Hospice Circle of Love, the Waukomis Christian Church and the Rodeo Historical Society at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum with Brown-Cummings, a life celebration home serving as custodian of the funds.
Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at www.Brown-Cummings.com.
