Graveside services for Patsy Ruth Awtrey, 76 year-old Wolfforth, Texas resident, will be held 10:00am Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Pat went home to be with her heavenly Father on November 5, 2011 after a brave fight with cancer.

She was born October 5, 1935 in Whitesboro, Texas to Clinton and Jessie Willis and had two brothers, Jay and Eugene. On August 7, 1951, she married Lonnie Awtrey. They had four children: James, Judith, Lydia and Mary.

In 1973, Pat graduated with honors from South Plains College School of Nursing and spent many years caring for people in both private duty and nursing home care. Pat had a love for the outdoors with gardening and planting flowers.

Pat is survived by three of her children: James Awtrey of Burleson, Texas; Judith Sisson of Wolfforth, Texas; Lydia Broyles of Lewisville, Texas; seven grandchildren: Lonnie, Adam, Travis, Sara, Ben, Taryn and Meaghan as well as two great-grandchildren: Saria and Dustin and her beloved cat, Furby. She will be greatly missed by her family but will forever live on in their hearts.

The funeral for Lonnie Roosevelt Awtrey, 50, 1621 E. Park, who died Saturday in an Oklahoma City hospital after several months of ill health, will be at 3 PM Tuesday in Liberty Southern Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Russell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery under direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

Awtrey was born May 22, 1933, at Ringling to Haskell and Elsie Awtrey. She married Arthur Ellis in 1939.

Awtrey was reared in White Deer, Texas, graduating from high school there in 1951. On August 7, 1951, he and Patsy Willis were married in Portales, New Mexico.

In 1953, Awtrey was drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean War at Fort sill, Fort Ord and Camp Roberts, California. After his discharge in 1955, the couple moved to Borger, Texas, where he worked for two years at Phillips Chemical Company. He also attended Frank Phillips College, graduating in 1958.

The couple then moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he attended Texas Tech University.

Awtrey began his postal career as a letter carrier in Lubbock, moving to Enid in June 1980 as manager of customer services. He became postmaster on October 18, 1980, and in November 1982 became ill.

Awtrey was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and training union teacher in the Carlisle Baptist Church at Lubbock. He was also a member of Liberty Southern Baptist Church in Enid, the Civitan Club and bowled on the club team.

Awtrey worked with the Garfield County Fair Association and United Way campaigns.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy; three daughters, Lydia and Mary, of the home, and Mrs. Stan (Judith) Sisson, Lubbock, Texas; one son, James, Tinker Air Force Base; and his mother, Elsie Ellis, White Deer, Texas.
