Mrs. Ralph (Edna) Atherton, 76, died in her home in Waukomis Thursday morning of an apparent heart attack. Her funeral service will be at 3 PM Sunday in the Waukomis United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Richard F. Mauldin will officiate and burial will be in the Waukomis Cemetery, under the direction of the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.
Those who wish may make contributions to the Building Fund of the Waukomis United Mrs. Church with Henninger-Allen as custodian of the fund.
Mrs. Atherton was born July 31, 1897, at Hennessy and moved with her parents to Waukomis in 1908. She graduated from high school there in 1917 and was married to Ralph Victor Atherton on September 10, 1917, in Waukomis.
The farm is now the south end of the main runway at Vance Air Force Base. After selling the farm to the government in 1954, they moved to Waukomis. Mrs. Atherton was predeceased by her husband on September 23, 1964; by two brothers, Joe and Floyd. She was a member of the Waukomis United Methodist Church, the United Workers Sunday school class, the Highland Dolly Peppers, the Union Neighborly Club and the Sunnyside Community Club.
Her son, DeWayne Atherton of Enid; her mother, Mrs. Emma McVickers of Enid; two grandsons and five great – grandsons survive.
