Pryor – The funeral for Willie Mae Ashley, 83, will be 10 AM Tuesday in the Memorial Chapel of The Jim Green Funeral Home. The Rev. Jan Jangam will officiate. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery.
She was born June 12, 1915, in Leaf, Mississippi, to Ben and Laura Jones and died Friday, Judy 11, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Pryor after a lengthy illness.
She spent her childhood in Mississippi and Alabama. She graduated from high school in Mobilel.
On February 1, 1936, she married W. J. Ashley in Texas. They lived in Brownsville until 1953, then moved to Pryor.
She was active in St. Mark Catholic Church and was a member of its Altar Society, serving as president. In 1993, the couple moved to Enid. She moved to Pryor last July.
Surviving are two daughters, Leah Taylor of Pryor and Carol Gungoll of Waukomis; one son, Marion "Sonny" of Pensacola, Florida; five grandchildren; and six great – grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 28, 1997, one sister and one brother.
