Waukomis – Irvin C. (Swede) Anderson, 89, died early Sunday in a local hospital. His funeral will be Wednesday at 10 AM in the United Methodist Church at Waukomis with the Rev. Mike Hooverton officiating. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home, Enid.
Anderson was born near Stockholm, Sweden, on December 9, 1886. He came to the United States with his parents in 1888, settling at Lexington, Missouri. The family moved to Kingfisher, and at the opening of the Cherokee Strip his father staked a claim 1 1/2 miles north of Waukomis.
Anderson was reared in the Waukomis community where he attended schools. He later attended school at Tonkawa and business college in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a farmer and City Clerk at Waukomis for several years.
In 1912, he moved to Enid where he was superintendent of mails until 1920 when he returned to the farm in Waukomis. He worked as a field representative for the ASC office from 1933 to 1959. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Waukomis Lions Club and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Alma Dee) Gungoll, Waukomis, and Mrs. Luther (Dorothy) Stone, Rockville, Maryland; two sons, Ralph and Robert, both of Waukomis; 11 grandchildren; several great – grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Alma Dulick, Enid, Mrs. Agnes Glass, Waukomis, and Mrs. Marie Stewart, Hennessy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie, in 1958, one daughter, one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church at Waukomis or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home acting as custodian.
