The funeral service for Harold J Brainard, 79, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Gary Hendrickson will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church, west of Enid. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Harold passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in the same bedroom in which he was born. He was born west of Enid on November 27, 1929, to Elmer B. and Louise (Luckert) Brainard. He graduated from Carrier High School in 1948 and Enid Business College in 1958. He was drafted into the Army in June 1952 and spent time in California. In December 1952 he went to Germany until June 1954. Upon discharge he was awarded the Division Honor Award.

He was engaged to June Lamunyon on July 16, 1954, and married Aug. 20, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Enid. They farmed until his death. He owned and operated a dairy for 25 years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a member his entire life. He was the financial secretary of the church for 40 years. At the time of his death he was chairman of the church. He loved to fish, hunt, bowl, and play pitch.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Calvin and one sister, Evelyn Kellert.

He is survived by his wife, June, of the home; two sons, Verl J and wife Lorraine and Virun J, all of Enid; three daughters, Dena Felton and husband Joe of Waukomis, Diana Henderson and husband Phillip of Garber, and Dona Johnson and husband Willard of Davis, Okla.; one sister, Florence Frech of Enid; one brother, Derald Brainard and wife Jeannette of Carrier; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren, more or less.

Visitation will be at his home before and after Good Friday church service.
