Carrier – A F. Riffle, 90, Carrier, died late Friday morning in a local hospital following a long illness. Services will be 2 PM Monday in the Henninger – Allen Chapel with the pastor Christy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Carrier under the direction of the funeral home.
He was born in Marion County, Kansas on December 7, 1885, and came with his parents when they made the "run" into the Cherokee Strip. They staked a claim 2 miles east and one half north of Carrier, where he grew up and attended Banner school. He later attended Union College in Nebraska before returning to Carrier to farm.
He married Hanna Hansen and they established their home on a farm at Carrier. He farmed all his life in the area until retirement in 1953. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Enid.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Riffle and Vernon Riffle, both of Enid; two daughters, Jane Timbes, Dallas, Texas and Ruby Lee Bloeser, Massapequa, New York; one brother, Sam Riffle, Clinton, Missouri, four step – daughters, Margaret Brown, Cudahy, California, Nettie Cole, Pampa, Texas, Mary Jane Seitz, Amarillo, Texas, Dorothy Yaskaskie, South Chicago, Indiana; six grandchildren and five great – grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home acting as custodian of the fund.
