Rose Hill Cemetery


Funeral service for Nellie Fern Graham Nelson, 92, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Carrier Congregational United Church of Christ with Gordon Epps and Gordon Jantz officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Carrier, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Nellie Fern was born to Everett M. and Eva Angelina (Jones) Graham July 21, 1920, on a farm near Dibble and passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Enid. Nellie Fern attended school in Dibble and later attended Oklahoma A&M College.
On June 5, 1940, she married Roy Garner Nelson in Stillwater. They farmed and ranched in the Carrier and Goltry communities, moving to Enid in 1985. She was a member of Carrier Congregational United Church of Christ, and held many church offices. Nellie Fern served on the State Women’s Fellowship Association and was a member of the Church and Professional Committee of the Kansas and Oklahoma Conference. Nellie Fern was a life member of Bass Baptist Auxiliary, Volunteer 4-H leader at Carrier for 28 years, worked seven years at CONTACT, and was secretary of CDSA, when it was organized in Garfield County. She served on the State Women’s Committee of Oklahoma Farm Bureau beginning in 1975, spending seven years as district committee woman of District 7, and the next 20 years as state chairman. Nellie Fern worked with Farm Bureau throughout the state, and represented Oklahoma at many national functions. Citizenship training for youth has been a high priority in her work. Nellie Fern was awarded the Distinguished Service to Farm Bureau award in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; son, Ronald; sisters, Treva Hardage Owens and Thelma Hollis; and brothers, Sethie, Ivan and J.N. Graham. Nellie Fern is survived by daughter, Denise Jones and husband Don of Enid; daughter-in-law, Jane Nelson of Goltry; three granddaughters, Amber Davis, Amanda Brandon and Allison Jones; two grandsons, Ryan Nelson and Chad Newby; sister, Leva Lawton; and brother, E.M. Graham.
