Mrs. Martha Koechel, 76, 202 S. Johnson, a longtime resident of Enid and Carrier, died early Monday in a local hospital. She had been hospitalized for several weeks after a lengthy illness.
Born in Waseca, Minnesota, she moved as a child with her parents to a farm near Carrier. She moved to Enid in 1949, where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Carrier Congregational United Church of Christ.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. George (Clara) Buzzard and Mrs. E. H. (Caia) Hester, both of Spearman, Texas, and Mrs. Will (Olga) Sanders of Oklahoma City; one brother, Joe Koechel of Carrier, and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Aaron, Paul and Edwin, and one sister, Emma.
Services will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Hester officiating, assisted by Rev. Geoff Benson. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Carrier.
Those who wish to make contributions in memory of Mrs. Koechel may do so to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation's cancer division. Ladusau-Evans will act as custodian of the fund.
