Mass of Christian burial for Violette Mae Blakley, 94-year-old Hennessey resident, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bison. The Rev. Marvin Leven will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, near Douglas. There will be a brief prayer service from 6-8 p.m. today at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.Violette was born the third child of Ida May (Stratton) and Louis C. Dunn on her parents' farm, northwest of Covington, and died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Hennessey Care Center.She lived her early childhood in the Covington area and later moved to Douglas, where she attended school and graduated from Douglas High School in 1934.On Aug. 14, 1935,

She married Carl Ambrose Blakley at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Enid, where they were lifetime members. They then set up housekeeping on a farm southwest of Douglas. During World War II, Carl worked on military construction and he and Violette lived in various locations in Northwest Oklahoma and Kansas. Violette and Carl were both very active in the Waukomis/Pioneer Round-up Club and Pioneer School. They farmed and ranched in the Douglas, Pioneer and Lucien areas all their lives. Since the death of her husband in 1987, Violette had been cared for in the home by her son, David. She was moved to Hennessey Care Center in January 2009. When she moved to the care center, she became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church

She is survived by two sons, Danny Carl Blakley of the Douglas area and David Louis Blakley, both of whom farm in the area; three grandchildren, Abbey Richards of Edmond, Okla., Able Worth Blakley of Denver, Colo., and Audra Korenak of St. Louis, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan Richards, and his sister, Maggie Jewel, both of Edmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one sister, Sarah (Sadie); and two brothers, Leroy Dunn of Plainville, Kan., and Louis Dunn of Douglas.The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Hennessey Care Center and hospice staff for the kindness and care given to Violette.
