Margaret "Margie'' Louise Kessel Sweetwood passed away Friday afternoon in St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born December 19, 1924 to Carl and Bertha Moore Kessel in Randolph County, Illinois.
In 1943 Margie met Veon Sweetwood while serving as a "Rosie the Riveter'' in St. Louis, Missouri. They married on November 30, 1943 and moved to Enid after the war.
Margie loved her family, friends, and her church. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She had been director of patient services at the Methodist Home and also a private sitter for people in the hospital. She often volunteered in the church kitchen of Willow Road Christian Church where she was a member for over 50 years and a member of the ONG retirees. Margie never met a stranger. Her love for life was expressed through her sparkling blue eyes and bright smile.
Surviving are three children, Jim and Teresa Sweetwood, Norman, Connie Wilson, Tulsa, and Terry and Ann Sweetwood, Tulsa; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Hartenberger and Wilma McCloud; and one brother, Ezra Kessel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Veon; a son, Johnny; and a brother, Vernon Kessel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11 at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Chapel with Carrel E. Still, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at ladusau-evans@coxinet.net.
