The graveside service for Doris J. Stone, 83-year-old Enid resident will be 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery Garden Chapel. The Rev. Vernon Lee will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Doris was born March 27, 1926, in Palmyra, Penn., to Raymond J. Snavely and Mary K. (Brown) Snavely and died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at her home in Enid. On July 5, 1944, she married Jay D. Stone in Lebanon, Penn. The couple moved to Enid and made their home. Jay worked at Champlin Refinery and she made a home and reared the children. They later owned and operated Stone's Grocery for many years. Later, Doris was employed with Holding's Food Stores from 1975 until 1994 when she retired.
The couple liked to fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Doris enjoyed quilting and oil painting, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Jay preceded her in death in 1981.
She is survived by four children, Jay Stone Jr. and wife Eve of Oklahoma City, Larry Stone of Tulsa, Betty Stone of Cherokee and Doris Posey and husband Gary of Waukomis; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Snavely of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay, her parents and one grandson, Tyler Highfill.
