The funeral for Curtis Melvin Stevenson, 75, will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Alfred Baldwin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Russworm Funeral Home, Enid.
He was born March 30, 1931, in Guthrie to Melvin and Alma Stevenson and died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at his home.
He grew up on the family farm east of Dover. He attended Booker T. Washing-ton Elemen-tary and High School, graduating in 1948. He married Minnie Dunnigan June 6, 1949. He later married Essie Richardson Nov. 22, 1963. She died in January 2002. He worked for Hackney Iron and Steel and George E. Failing Co. He had a trucking business and a landscaping business. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board and finance committee. He was an adult Sunday school teacher. He was affiliated with Western District Laymen Association. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge, and a member of NAACP and local Democratic Party.
Surviving are his six children, Linda Caldwell of Dover, Bernell Stevenson of Lake Forest, Calif., Debra Clark of Columbus, Ohio, Eric Stevenson of El Reno, Donna Johnson of Saginaw, Mich., and Yvette Davis of Enid; three sisters, Vivian Jean Baines of Los Angeles, Calif., Mylene Decatur of Torrence, Calif., and Gloria Stevenson Cole of Oklahoma City; close friend, Dorothy Jones; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Essie, one brother and two grandsons.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund, Enid.
