Paul R. Spruill passed away Sunday morning Jan. 12, 2014, at 7:52 a.m. He was 85 years old. He was born in Cloverdale, Calif. He was raised in Waco, Texas, and later, his parents moved to Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Northside High School in 1947. In 1950, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict as a PFC. He married Betty S. Williams Dec. 24, 1950, before being deployed to Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the military in 1952, he and Betty made their home in Katy, Texas, where he was employed by Humble Oil Co., which later became Exxon Oil. Paul and Betty made their home with their four children in Enid, Okla. He retired from Exxon Oil in 1985. In 1990, he became a concessionaire working local and statewide concession events. In 1998, he invented and patented a Funnel Cake Batter Dispenser, which he marketed to several major theme parks nationally and internationally. He was an avid golfer, card and domino player. He loved all genres of music.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers and his wife.
He is survived by four children and their spouses: Paula Purdin of Choctaw, Okla., Gary Spruill of Enid, Okla., Mark Spruill of Chandler, Okla., and Tami Andrews of Dickson, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Spruill of Midland, Texas; and a sister, Frances Carmanati of Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Ladusau Evans Funeral Home. A graveside service in Memorial Park Cemetery, following. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. today, Jan. 16, at the funeral home.
