Curtis Leon Snyder, 70, of Jay, OK died at 4:38 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Integris Grove General Hospital after a long illness.
Curtis was born Oct. 23, 1937, in Enid, OK to Byron Vincent and Gracia Cordelia (Tuckness) Snyder. After graduation from Enid High School, he joined the United State Navy on June 20, 1956, where he was first stationed at Pensacola, FL. From February 1957 until October 1958, he served aboard the USS Bon Hom Richard CV31 in the Pacific Ocean. Curtis studied mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University in 1959. In January 1960, Curtis began his career as a flight test technician in Ontario, CA. In September 1960, he moved back to Enid and worked at Vance Air Force Base until May 1966. He then spent six years at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. In July 1972 Curtis began his almost 20-year career with Northrop where he worked at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on the F5, Edwards AFB, California on the F5, F20 “Tigershark”, B2 and Avionic Flying Test Bed, Virginia Beach, VA on the T38 and F5. He retired to Jay, OK in November 1992 from Quartz Hill, CA.
Curtis was a member of the Masonic Aubrey Berry Lodge 501 in Enid, OK, was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Guthrie Scottish Rite Temple and the American Legion Post 192 in Spavinaw, OK. On August 11, 1973, he married Lowis J. Teeter in Dean, TX. She survives of the home in Jay. They enjoyed traveling together and had especially enjoyed two trips, an Alaskan Cruise in 1999 and a cruise through the Panama Canal in 2000.
Additional survivors include four sons, Vincent Ray Snyder of Norfolk, VA, Larry Rollins and wife Debbie of Grove, OK, Jimmy Rollins and Francine of Jay, OK, and Randy Rollins and wife Debbie of Grove, OK; four daughters, Loretta Sunderland and her husband Kirk of Hayward, WI, Judy Rollins of Jay, OK, Donna Kirkley and her husband Gene of Yucaipa, CA, and Karolyn McFarlane and her husband Terry of West Lake, LA; one sister, Janice Cordell of Enid, OK; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Snyder.
The family will receive friends at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 from 2-8 p.m. The graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK with Brother Marvin Dale Gillum of House of Prayer in Jay officiating.
Pallbearers will be Vincent Snyder, Terry McFarlane, Jerry Fisk, Shawn Rollins, Wesley Rollins and Andrew Dinesen.
