ENID, Okla. - Memorial service for Matthew Eric "Smitty" Smith will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Memorial Park Garden Chapel. Rev. Vernon Lee will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Matthew was born Oct. 31, 1972, in Enid, Okla., to Cecil M. Smith and Barbara Marion Daniels and died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, with his family members at his side.
Early in life, Matt excelled in many sports and was especially good at racing bicycles and won events all over the state. He later became an avid mountain biker and won several events across the country, anything with wheels and a motor that went fast was for him. He later enjoyed spending time with friends and playing pool.
Matt operated his own lawn service business for over 15 years and took pride in taking care of his lawn. Cancer knew it found a tough opponent in him, and he fought it as long as humanly possible.
He is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Linda Jones of Enid; father, Cecil Smith of Enid; mother, Barbara Ford of Bristow, Okla.; sister, Gina Smith Butler of South Pasadena, Calif.; brother, Jon Smith of Enid; half-brother, Luke Fortney and half-sister Susan Banks, both of Bristow, Okla.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
