Harriet Virginia Smith was born Feb. 18, 1927, to George and Medie (Ferrell) Yocham and went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 1, 2015, at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Harriet grew up in the Marland/Tonkawa area of Oklahoma, later moving to Enid, where she met and married Orval Augusta Smith. They settled in Bristow with their children in 1955. She worked at and retired from Miss Elaine’s Garment Factory. She enjoyed attending church, working in her flower garden, feeding a plethora of wild birds (especially the “humming” kind), sewing and crocheting. Harriet spent many hours listening to David Ingles music and enjoyed his concerts when he came to Bristow.
Harriet is survived by one brother, Melvin (Sam) Bradsher and wife Beth of Escondido, Calif.; her children Laura Halladay and husband Joel of Burton, Mich., Bennie Smith of Sherburn, Minn., Virginia Smith-Yocham of Bristow, Patricia Houston of Bristow, OB Smith and wife Dee of Enid, Loretta Taylor and husband Dennis of Arlington, Texas, and Carolyn Eckert of Enid; 16 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Fred Van Meter, sisters Juanita Jackson and Elsie Mae Hamby, son Freddie David Smith and grandson Kevin Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at HutchinsMaplesMatherly Funeral Home in Bristow, with Brent Matherly officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid.
