Celebration of Life service for Jack Sheets, 85, of Enid, Okla., is 3 p.m. today, March 20, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Pastors Scott Whittenburg and Kenneth Wade will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Jack was born May 19, 1929, in Enid, Okla., to Marvin Lester Sheets and Maude Ruby (Griffin) Sheets and passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015.
He graduated in 1947 from Enid High School. In 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Army Corps of Engineers until 1952. He returned to work at Central Automotive in 1953. In 1962, he began working as a mechanic for Enid Transmission Specialists. He joined OG&E as a mechanic in 1973, and retired as transportation supervisor in 1987. After his retirement, he did home improvement and mechanical work. Jack enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling.
On Sept. 6, 1953, Jack married Valera Evers at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They raised three children: Sam, Jerry and Nancy, who all graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Jack was an avid OU football fan.
After retirement, they traveled most of the United States and Canada, went on cruises to Alaska and Europe, and spent winters in Port Aransas, Texas, in their RV. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Valera of the home in Enid; three children, Sam Sheets and wife Deborah of Houston, Texas, Jerry Sheets of Spring, Texas, and Nancy Sheets of Dallas, Texas. He leaves four grandchildren, Allison Sheets, engaged to Jared Broussard of Lafayette, La., Emily Sheets of Norman, Okla., Victoria Sheets of Houston, Texas, and Erica Sheets of Spring, Texas; one sister, Bobett Larkey of Enid, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School, with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
