Following high school, he joined the United States Navy and served one year active duty and seven years in the reserves. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 35 years of service. He joined the Prospect Hill Masonic Lodge in 1969.
Leroy married Shirley Howard on February 16, 1956 at St. John's Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. They moved to Enid in 2007 where they made their permanent home. Leroy and Shirley celebrated 62 ½ years of marriage as of August this year.

Leroy enjoyed many hobbies; he loved to play poker, fishing on the Texas coast, gardening, and traveling. He was a big fan of Clive Cussler western novels, and also many western movies.
He attended Central Christian Church and was a member of the Enid Moose Lodge until his illness prevented him from attending. He liked talking to people about many various subjects; Leroy never met a stranger.
Leroy's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sara Matousek, and her nurse, Robin; as well as the nurses and staff of Ross Hospice. Our family will be forever grateful to Kim Hall, who showed such kindness and love for Leroy throughout his illness.
