Betty Jean Shuttee
September 22, 1923 - August 7, 2024
Betty Shuttee passed away unexpectedly and joined her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Enid followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. Arrangements are being handled by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Betty Jean (Fields) Shuttee was born in Marion, Indiana on September 22, 1923. After graduating from Marion High School in 1941, she pursued a nursing degree from Ball State Nursing School in Muncie, Indiana, graduating in 1944. She took a pediatric nursing position at John Whitcomb Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met Dr. Robert D. Shuttee during his pediatric residency. They were married on March 10, 1945. After he completed his medical service in the Army Medical Corps, they moved to Enid where Dr. Shuttee established Enid's first pediatric practice in 1949. Betty was the first nurse and continued to be an enthusiastic supporter of the practice as well as their numerous life and community activities. They were married for 73 years!
Betty volunteered in many local organizations including the YMCA, the Board of Enid's Speech and Hearing center, St. Mary's Hospital and Bass (Integris) Hospital Boards and the Junior Welfare League. She treasured her over 50-year membership in Chapter Q of the PEO, serving in many officer roles.
As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Enid since 1950, Betty was committed to teaching the youth, singing in her beloved choir and serving in many leadership roles with the Presbyterian Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D, Shuttee, her parents Milo C. Fields and Gladys Harrigan Fields and her brother, Robert Fields.
She is survived by her son, David Shuttee and his wife, Karen of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Jan Shuttee Brown and her husband, Tom Brown of Boxford, Massachusetts; her grandchildren Matthew Brown and his wife Portia of Salem, Massachusetts; Andrew Brown and his wife, Erika of Boxford, Massachusetts; and Megan Brown Gray and her husband, Andrew Gray of Marblehead, Massachusetts; and her very beloved great grandchildren, Eliza and Josie Brown; Logan and Hunter Brown; and Warren Gray.
Betty's faith and special concern for others and her happy, positive, friendly attitude always touched the lives of anyone who met her. A special thank you to Joel, Letty, Josh and Jonathan Ancheta for their continued care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Enid, the Enid Salvation Army, or the Enid Symphony.
