ENID, OK - Funeral service for Chester A. Ross, 91, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Central Christian Church, Enid, Okla. Pastors John McLemore and Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral home.
Chester was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Henryetta, Okla., to Ashby G. and Annabelle (Hollis) Ross and died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Enid.
He finished high school at Henryetta High in 1941, and moved to Ocean Park, Calif., in 1942, where he worked for Air Research Manufacturing, an aircraft factory.
In October 1942, he returned to Henryetta and enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was sent to the Naval Training Station in San Diego, Calif., for basic training.
On March 8, 1943, he shipped out to serve in the South Pacific being home-based at Port Auckland, New Zealand. He served on the USS Talamanca until being sent back stateside on June 6, 1945. He then served at the Naval Ammunition Depot on Mare Island, Calif., until the end of World War II. He received an honorable discharge on Dec. 29, 1945.
On April 4, 1946, he went to work for Bingman Motor Sales, Okmulgee, Okla., in the body shop, and later worked as body shop manager for Ross-Silvey Ford, also in Okmulgee.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Doris Jane Schaid at First Christian Church of Henryetta, Okla. They made their home first in Henryetta and then in Okmulgee, Okla., before moving to Enid in August 1961, where Chester went to work for Day-Neal Motor Co. as body shop manager.
On Feb. 1, 1970, he began working for Automobile Damage Appraisers (ADA) as an independent appraiser. On Feb. 1, 1971, he moved to Franklin Motor Co. as body shop manager, from which he retired on Feb. 1, 1992.
Chester was an active member of Central Christian Church, serving as president of the Sooner Sunday school class for two terms. He served as a deacon for many years. He was involved in many carpentry projects at the church, including the construction of cabinetry in the church offices. He also was exceptionally involved in many construction projects for Leonardo?s Discovery Warehouse and Adventure Quest.
Chester is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; daughter, Jane Suzanne ?Suzie? Little of Edmond, Okla.; son, James Ronald ?Ronnie? Ross and daughter-in-law Teresa Ross of Benbrook, Texas; three grandchildren, Carson Hulcher of Edmond, his wife Carrie and their children Kelsey and Kellen, Jason Ross of Wiley, Texas, his wife Jennifer and their children Savannah and Aaron, and Alison Ross of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister-in-law, Aileene, widow of his eldest brother A.G. Ross Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Billy Joe; his parents, Ashby G. and Annabelle; brothers, Ashby G. Ross Jr. and Newton B. Ross; sister, Annabelle Lee Nieman; sister-in-law, Dorothy A. Maddox and husband Roger; and brother-in-law, Don Schaid and wife Shirley.
Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Doris Jane Ross, born July 15, 1925, Independence, KS and died January 3, 2019 in Mineola, TX.
Doris Jane Ross was born in Independence, KS, on July 15, 1925, to John C. and Blanch M. Schaid. In 1937, the family relocated to Henryetta, OK where Doris graduated from Henryetta High School in 1944. She met Chester A. Ross and they were married on September 15, 1946. They made their first home in Henryetta but soon moved to Okmulgee, OK. In 1961, they relocated to Enid. Mrs. Ross worked at several businesses in Enid including Baby Duds, Mfg, Singer Sewing Machine, Lambert's Department Store, and Community Bank. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Ross moved to Edmond and then to Texas to be near her daughter and son. She was residing at Autumn Wind Assisted Living at the time of her death.
Doris was an active member of Central Christian Church participating in many activities there including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and the Centours.
Mrs. Ross is survived by two children, Jane Suzanne (Suzie) Little of Holly Lake Ranch, TX and James Ronald (Ronnie) Ross of Magnolia, TX. One daughter-in-law, Teresa (Dahlin) Ross of Magnolia, TX, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many extended family members She was preceded in death by an infant son, Billy Joe; her parents; her husband, Chester; her sister, Dorothy Maddox; twin brother Donald Schaid; her parents-in-law, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mrs. Ross cremains will be interred in a private ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery at a future date.
