Mary Short Ridge, age 94, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 8, 2017. Her prayer was to, "join those she loved who were part of her life and sing Hallelujahs and Amen in God's wonderful Chorus." She was born on September 27, 1923, in Bonnerdale, Arkansas, to Seba Lawrence and Julina Collier Short and was one of five children.
In her formative years, she met Jewel William Ridge; they were married September 15, 1945. Together they had three children. Mary received her Bachelor of Business Education Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1945. She taught business at Enid High School and O.T. Autry Vocational and Technical Center (now Autry Technology Center) until she retired. After she retired from education, she served many years in the First United Methodist Church business office. Mary's love of music began at birth and as she became of age. She sang with her sisters and mother as The Willow Springs Quartet. They performed with The Statesmen and The Blackwood Brothers quartets and other recording artists on stage and radio. She was an accomplished vocalist and performed with the First United Methodist Church of Enid Chancel Choir as a member and soloist for many years.
Mary is survived by one sister, Clarice (Paul) Caver; daughters, Mary Lynn (William) Peacher, Patricia Ann (Stephen) Bradley, and Cindy Kay (Edmund) Braly; grandchildren Dana Lynn (Patrick) Kuehn, Amy Langdon (Clark) Tingleaf, John Richard (Samantha) Ridge, and Mary Catherine Bradley; and great-grandchildren Carter and Christopher Bogie, Zachary and Nicholas Kuehn, Piper and Langdon Tingleaf, Madisyn and Dallison Ridge. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. December 14, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph, Enid, Oklahoma 73701. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Enid Choir Fund.
Our many thanks to the staff at Oklahoma Methodist Manor of Tulsa, as they loved her to the end; and to Seasons Hospice of Tulsa, that made the end peaceful.
