ENID — Funeral for Albert "Al" Ray, 85, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Grayson Lucky officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson - Burris Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Albert was born Dec. 25, 1925, to Joseph Bryan and Lillian Hazel (Hayes) Ray in Marietta, Okla., and died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at his home in Enid.

He served in the United States Army during WWII and the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Al was awarded the British Military Award (equivalent to a silver star), a silver star and two bronze stars for his heroic actions during the Rhineland Campaign in the European Theater with the 405th Infantry Regiment.

On Feb. 9, 1946, Al married Helen Dollins in Wellington, Kan.

He retired from Grolier Inc. Publishing as senior vice president. Al served as a liaison officer for Vance Air Force Base and was a Shriner, Rotarian, and Mason. He opened the Midgley Museum to the public in 1991 and served as director until 1996. Al volunteered with "SCORE," assisting small businesses in the Enid area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Albert is survived by his children, Steven Ray of East Brunswick, N.J., Linda Ray of Enid and Mark Ray of Cary, Ill.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, J.B. Ray and Don Walters; four sisters, Evelyn Tyrell, Kay Johnson, Janis Wagoner and Gerri McConnell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sue Ray.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to OMRF, heart or cancer division.
