The memorial service for George Robert "Bob" Qualls, 105, will be 11 am. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Central Christian Church. The Revs. John McLemore and Don Johnson will officiate. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson - Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.
He was born April 11, 1903, in Savannah, Tenn., to Matt Franklin and Minnie Miley Tucker Qualls and died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, in Enid.
He graduated from Oklahoma School for the Blind, Muskogee, and then attended Texas Christian University where he earned his bachelor and masters degrees. He earned a certification of completion from Currie School of Expression in Boston, Mass., in 1930, and an education certificate from Northwestern College, Tahlequah, in 1932.
He married Layleth Arnell Jones Dec. 19, 1936, in Oklahoma City. They made their home in Enid where he operated a vending stand at the Post Officer while building his piano tuning business. He owned and operated Qualls Piano Service, tuning pianos. He was a charter board member and past president of Oklahoma League for the Blind, charter member and past president of Oklahoma Council of the Blind, member of American Council of the Blind, and charter member of the Piano Technicians Guild, and was a registered piano technician.
Surviving are two sons, Robert C. Qualls of Denver, Colo., and George D. Qualls of Appleton, Wis., and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Layleth, in 1987; three brothers; and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love, Respite Building Fund, or Central Christian Church Caregivers.
