The graveside service for Ruth Porter, 95, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Pat Hoerth officiating. Viewing will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Ruth was born to Joe and Maude (Bartels) Doggett on July 7, 1915 on the family farm southest of Cherokee. She left this earthly home on Friday, April 8, 2011.
Ruth graduated from Cherokee High School in 1932, and married Lowell Slack. She later married Archie R. Porter in 1946
She was a homemaker all her life. Ruth was an excellent cook and seamstress. An avid gardener, she took pride in her roses and loved to put up all sorts of fresh vegetables. They also had a large mum garden and she raised and sold mums in the fall for many years
She is survived by children, Ruth Ann (Leon) Kindt of Washington, Betty Rathjen, Mary (Jim) Strait and Michael (Lillian) Porter, all of Enid; niece, Kathie (Robbins) Stocksen, Enid; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Archie, and two sisters.
