JoEllen Margaret Porter, age 90, of Norman, OK formerly of Enid, OK was born on September 6, 1920 to Charles William and Lorena C (Sanderlin) Harris in Okeene, OK. She was the last of eight children: four brothers Charles Harris, James Harris, Lester Harris, Elmer Harris, three sisters Hope Travis, Opal Masters, and Naomi Lowder. JoEllen passed from this life on January 9, 2011 in Norman, OK. She grew up and attended school in Okeene, OK and later married Charles H. Porter, Jr. on November 30, 1939 in Moline, Kansas. She was married for 60 years and during that time they lived in Tulsa, Wichita, KS, Enid, Glasgow, MT, Belton, MO and again in Enid until Charles passed away in January of 2000. In her later days, she was married to Walter Fast of Okeene for four years until his passing in 2007.
JoEllen worked as a nurse’s aid and she served with many volunteer organizations including RSVP and St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of Davis Park Christian Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the CWF.
JoEllen and Charles had four children: Charles Porter and family of Indianapolis, IN, Janice Winstead and family of Minnetoka, MN, Dale Porter and family of Norman, and Suzanne Baumgartel and family of San Antonio, TX. She had fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Family visitation will be Thursday; 1-13-11 at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid from 7-9pm. Funeral services will 10 a.m. Friday at Davis Park Christian Church with Pastor Alan Seibel officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the kind direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
